As publishing evolved, he became one of the first to shift from oils to digital painting, creating his first digital romance novel cover for Harlequin Books. Over the next 38 years, he created approximately 1,250 book covers for many of the leading publishers in the United States and abroad. His illustrations appeared on the cover of novels by numerous New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors, reaching millions of readers around the world. His career extended far beyond publishing. Among his notable accomplishments were creating a portrait of the renowned celebrity model Fabio that was displayed on the Nasdaq building in Times Square on Valentine’s Day, designing the tombstone for Anna Nicole Smith in the Bahamas, and working with actor Topher Grace.

By every measure, Ferrara had achieved the career he had dreamed of. Then, in 2020, everything changed. Following surgery for a benign acoustic neuroma, John Paul Ferrara unexpectedly lost his eyesight.
